New Study Demonstrates EVOs for EV Isolation and Purification
Researchers from the BIO-Processing Science & Innovation (BIOPSI) Lab, led by Truly co-founder James Lai, published a new study demonstrating the EVOs platform for rapid extracellular vesicle (EV) isolation. EVOs reduced sample volume 50-fold in under two hours, removed >99% of albumin, and preserved EV protein markers, miRNA cargo, and biological activity. When integrated upstream of size-exclusion chromatography, EVOs enabled 30 mL of conditioned medium to be processed through a 0.5 mL SEC column, producing EV preparations with purity reaching 3.6 × 10⁹ particles/µg protein. The results demonstrate EVOs' potential to simplify and scale EV research and bioprocessing workflows.

Osmotic Processor Enables 100× Biomarker Enrichment for Rapid Diagnostics
Truly co-founders publish foundational demonstration of an osmosis-driven sample processing platform for improving point-of-care diagnostic sensitivity. The device spontaneously removed water at rates up to 15.2 mL/hour and concentrated dilute protein biomarkers by approximately 100-fold without pumps or an external power source.
Using commercial lateral flow assays, the processor concentrated 10 mL samples to approximately 100 µL, enabling detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein that was initially below the assay's detection limit. Mass spectrometry independently measured an increase from 0.09 ± 0.06 µg/mL to 18.0 ± 4.3 µg/mL—nearly 200-fold enrichment. The work established the potential of osmotic sample preparation to enhance existing rapid diagnostic tests while maintaining a simple, equipment-free workflow.
